The Parable of the Rose
Updated: Apr 25, 2024
A man planted a rose and started watering it constantly. Before it bloomed, he examined it and saw the bud that would soon bloom, but he noticed thorns on the stem and thought, "How can such a beautiful flower come from a plant surrounded by such sharp thorns." Saddened by this thought, he became He refused to water the rose and before it was even ready to bloom it died.
So it is with many people. Inside each soul there is a rose: These are the qualities given by God. Inside each soul we also have thorns: They are our faults. Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects. We despair, thinking that nothing good can come from within. We refuse to water the good within us, and consequently, it dies. We never realize our potential.
Some people do not see the rose inside themselves. So someone else must show them. One of the greatest gifts a person can possess or share is being able to go through the thorns and find the rose within other people. This is the characteristic of love: Looking at a person and knowing their true qualities.
Accept that person into your life, while recognizing the beauty in their soul and helping them realize that they can overcome their apparent imperfections. If we show these people the rose, they will overcome their own thorns. Just so they can bloom again and again. So smile! And discover the roses that exist within each of you and the people you love...
